is there any way to fix the light meter on a Nikon Nikkor-S Auto 50mm f/1.4 lens?

without taking it somewher to get repaired?
or a nikkormat camera? its a really old camera/lens.

If the meter in the camera is dysfunctional, or the electronic link between the lens and the body is dysfunctional, repair might be expensive.
