How much does the Canon EOS Rebel T2 SLR Camera film from September 2004? What is the cost in a Canon camera shop today? I am doing a research paper on different types of cameras, and I really need the answer ...

Well, Canon has stopped all film cameras, so it is very unlikely that you find in a store. Looks it has an MSRP of $ 190 when it came out. Now, the only way to find it in stores that sell used equipment or a site like eBay. Just checking eBay listings for show ended that the cameras are selling anywhere between $ 50 and $ 150.

I saw the Canon Rebel T1i prices to an extent of $ 800 dollars to $ 1200 online. This includes some online retailers, auction sites, mothers of small shops and online, pop, and everything else. This is obviously a case of buyer beware. You should read the fine print to see what you get, in terms of accessories and lenses. The biggest deciding factor in price, the glasses are usually included. There are of course other factors that influence pricing too.

Megapixels is also commonly used in sales of digital SLRs, and Pentax, Kodak and the rest the retailers know all too well. With the Canon Rebel T1i the sales department seems to have conquered the design team.

For best rating megapixels, Canon has opted to place the pixels closer, and use the pixels a bit smaller than the D90 digital SLR use. This is the best how to get extra pixels to fit on a small area. What were talking about here is basically another specification called pixel density. Not something you see brand for all the packaging T1i SLR. The density for the SLRs T1i is 4.5 megapixels per centimeter square, while the Nikon D90 12.3MP is 3.3 megapixels.

Crowded pixels is a concern, but it does not stop there. As you go hunting for additional lenses, you will soon discover, that megapixels means more money on higher prices for lentils. A high resolution, SLR is equivalent to solve a higher resolution lens, which means spending a few dollars more.

Canon has taken a decision to lodge the 18-55mm EF-S f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR with T1i and no way would it my first choice for a digital SLR camera that supports 15 1 megapixels. Canon lens that does produce better photographs for SLR T1i, including EF-S 18-200mm Canon.

Wait, there's more, as I'm not even close to cracking issues with a density of pixels high. High pixel density may be affecting the dynamic range, ISO, and diffraction. Looking more closely, it seems that our hypothesis of introduction of the Rebel T1i be best bang for the buck is a little presumptuous.

DxOMark test is widely accepted to classify the operation of image sensors in digital SLRs. DxOMark tested the Canon 50D SLR uses the same sensor that Canon Rebel T1i and supports my earlier statements that the Nikon D90 12.3MP produces superior images. I am convinced that T1i SLR will be similar trials DxOMark to the EOS 50D existing test data now available.

Getting a good Rebel T1i price, is never an easy thing, especially with the way digital technology is constantly changing. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful websites online, that can narrow down your search and help you find the best Rebel T1i price with all the features important to you.

Xsi Rebel - Great Camera, Amazing Battery Life

I have had the XSi Rebel for about 3 months now and I am thoroughly impressed with it. This is my first DSLR and I was a little wary about going with a brand-new and untested camera, but I have always like Canon (I used an ELAN II in High School and I bought a SD600 about 2 years ago to take snapshots of my son). Overall, I have not been disappointed with the quality of the photos that the XSi Rebel produces. The IS lens works great and I have taken some pretty amazing photos (for me at least). I do have just a couple of issues, both good and bad, that I think those who are looking at buying this may want to know.

Battery life -- Great battery life. I should say, AMAZING battery life. I have taken over 5000 photos and I have only had to charge the battery twice.

Live View – Live View is not for beginners. It is not a replacement for your Point-and-Shoot. You can't use it in the AUTO mode (Green Square). This isn't that big of a deal for me, I prefer full manual myself, but the whole point of this feature, I thought, was to make it more user friendly for the Point-and-Shoot photographer. My wife can't use Live View in it's current form (I specifically bought a DSLR with a live view function so she could still use the camera). So, if Live View is a big selling point for you, You may want to look at some others (If it isn't that big of a deal to you, then this is still an amazing camera -- added 4-23-2008). If you do studio work, though, you can hook the camera up to your PC and use it as a remote viewer. But it is not a point-and-shoot camera in Live View. In my earlier review, I said that it would be nice if Canon fixed some of the Live View issues with a firmware update, I was mistaken. Live View is a nice feature once you figure out it is not meant for beginners. Studio and landscape photographers will find Live View a great tool.

Image Quality -- I have had some great success shooting in a studio setting as well as some great outdoor shots. In the studio, I used tungsten "hot" lights with the subject against a white background. The photos turned out great. Skin tones are perfect and there is very little, if any, chromatic aberration at the edges. It shoots great outdoor shots as well. We just got into beekeeping and I was able to get some AMAZING shots of our bees up-close outdoors. The bees looked dirty and not very interesting from a distance, but the macro photos I got up close are beautiful and full of wonderfully crisp details. The lens is a little short, the image quality you get from it is pretty good considering it only costs $100. I do plan on buying a longer lens in the near future.

Overall, the camera is solid and feels nice in the hand. It isn't too heavy, yet still feels sturdy. If you can afford the higher price, I don't think you will be disappointed. If you can't, the XTi is still a great camera. And if you can afford to wait a few months for the price to drop a little (LIKE IT ALREADY HAS!!) I would. I was able to work a few extra weekends so I could afford to get this, and I can tell you, I don't mind it a bit, because the quality of photos I am getting has been totally worth it.

--- Update ---
I was incorrect when I said you couldn't use the 9-Point autofocus in Live View. You can use the 9-point autofocus while in Live View, but the mirror flips down and focuses so you can't see what you are trying to focus on until after the camera has actually gone through the autofocus process.

--- Update #2 ---
I have now had this camera for almost two months and I am happy to report that the more I use it, the more I love it. Once you learn the layout of the camera and you load the My Menu with the tools you use most often, the camera becomes an absolute delight to use. I have taken over 5000 photos with it so far and now I need an extra hard drive to put them all on.

I was able to rent a Canon EF 24-105 IS L lens and a 580 EX II Speedlite for my sister's wedding. WOW! What great photos. The camera interfaced with the flash flawlessly and I am more convinced than ever that much of the quality of your photos comes from the glass you use and not as much from the camera itself (I think it is about 65% lens to 35% camera body give or take a few points-- I know there will be those who disagree, but that is my take on it, and I am sure if I had a 1Ds MkIII I would think that there wasn't a piece of glass good enough for my camera).

This is a great beginner dSLR and a great camera all around. I am very happy with my purchase and I have had no regrets whatsoever about spending the $900 to buy such a great tool. Amazon now sells it for $799, you can't go wrong at that price!

Upgraded from 50D to 5Dmkii

I was scared to spend the money but when i received the camera i was pretty sure i had made the right decision. The menu system is very similar to the 50D so i was able to start making custom settings instantly. The 'bulb' setting is a welcome feature compared to the 50 and as is the 3 custom settings instead of 2. Image quality is awesome along with the full frame sensor to bring out the best of my L series lenses. Take the time to sign on to the canon registration since you get extra perks as a 5D owner.

I'm blown away!!!

What can I say, the is one amazing camera. I bought this to replace my old body (20D). Full frame is the way to go, I can't say enough about this camera. The image quality is amazing, low light photography is better then expected. The added video is nice, while the live view is a welcomed change. I also purchased the battery grip with this unit plus a large (16gb) high speed card, you definitely need the larger memory card if you will be shooting in raw+jpg, like i do. Now I can take advantage of my "L" glass with this camera. Well worth the price! My clients will appreciate the end result. One last thing, if you are a extreme macro photographer, you will take advantage of the live view function, it helps when you reach for a shot especially with the Canon MP-E 65mm Lens, Canon MT-24EX Flash. I'm doing a large scale documentation project photographing objects on a copy stand. Was pretty sure I was going to use Nikon bodies as thats what I'm familiar with. I tested several bodies and it came down to a 5d MkII or a D3. I'vee never been a pixel peeper but it was clear that that the added resolution with the 5D made a big difference and it was too ignore. Also it comes with the software you need to tether the camera which is nice. My biggest complaint is the ergonomics, big and clunky. Luckily I don't have to handle too much, because I definitely think Nikons are better in this regard. Also Canon's RAW format is less proprietary than Nikon's which does make a big difference to me.

In photography, dynamic range is measured in EV differences (known as stops) between the brightest and darkest parts of the image that show detail. An increase of one EV or one stop is a doubling of the amount of light.

High-dynamic-range photographs are generally achieved by capturing multiple standard photographs, often using exposure bracketing, and then merging them into an HDR image. Digital photographs are often encoded in a camera's raw image format, because 8 bit JPEG encoding clips the camera's possible dynamic range (and also introduces undesirable effects due to the lossy compression).

Any camera that allows manual over- or under-exposure of a photo can be used to create HDR images.

Some cameras have an auto exposure bracketing (AEB) feature with a far greater dynamic range than others, from the 3 EV of the Canon EOS 40D, to the 18 EV of the Canon EOS-1D Mark II.

The Pentax K-7 DSLR has an HDR mode which captures an HDR image and then outputs (only) a tone-mapped JPEG file.

The fact that an increase of 1 EV indicates a doubling of light means that EV is often represented on a base-2 logarithmic scale.

The human perception of brightness is well approximated by a Steven's power law, which over a reasonable range is close to logarithmic, as described by the Weberechner law, which is one reason that logarithmic measures of light intensity are often used.

Representing HDR images on LDR displays

Contrast reduction

HDR images can easily be represented on common LDR devices, such as computer monitors and photographic prints, by simply reducing the contrast, just as all image editing software is capable of doing.

Clipping and compressing dynamic range

Scenes with high dynamic ranges are often represented on LDR devices by cropping the dynamic range, cutting off the darkest and brightest details, or alternatively with an S conversion curve that compresses contrast progressively and more aggressively in the highlights and shadows while leaving the middle portions of the contrast range relatively unaffected.

Tone mapping

Main article: Tone mapping

Tone mapping reduces the dynamic range, or contrast ratio, of the entire image, while retaining localized contrast (between neighboring pixels), tapping into research on how the human eye and visual cortex perceive a scene, trying to represent the whole dynamic range while retaining realistic color and contrast.

Images with too much tone mapping processing have their range over-compressed, creating a surreal low-dynamic-range rendering of a high-dynamic-range scene.

Comparison with traditional digital images

Information stored in high dynamic range images typically corresponds to the physical values of luminance or radiance that can be observed in the real world. This is different from traditional digital images, which represent colors that should appear on a monitor or a paper print. Therefore, HDR image formats are often called "scene-referred", in contrast to traditional digital images, which are "device-referred" or "output-referred". Furthermore, traditional images are usually encoded for the human visual system (maximizing the visual information stored in the fixed number of bits), which is usually called "gamma encoding" or "gamma correction". The values stored for HDR images are often gamma compressed (power law) or logarithmically encoded, or floating-point linear values, since fixed-point linear encodings are increasingly inefficient over higher dynamic ranges.

HDR images often use a higher number of bits per color channel than traditional images to represent many more colors over a much wider dynamic range. 16-bit ("half precision") or 32-bit floating point numbers are often used to represent HDR pixels. However, when the appropriate transfer function is used, HDR pixels for some applications can be represented with as few as 1012 bits for luminance and 8 bits for chrominance without introducing any visible quantization artifacts.

History of HDR photography

1850

The idea of using several exposures to fix a too-extreme range of luminance was pioneered as early as the 1850s by Gustave Le Gray to render seascapes showing both the sky and the sea. Such rendering was impossible at the time using standard techniques, the luminosity range being too extreme. Le Gray used one negative for the sky, and another one with a longer exposure for the sea, and combined the two in a single picture in positive.

1930

High dynamic range imaging was originally developed in the 1930s and 1940s by Charles Wyckoff. Wyckoff's detailed pictures of nuclear explosions appeared on the cover of Life magazine in the mid 1940s. Wyckoff implemented local neighborhood tone remapping to combine differently exposed film layers into one single image of greater dynamic range.

1980

The desirability of HDR has been recognized for decades, but its wider usage was, until quite recently, precluded by the limitations imposed by the available computer processing power. Probably the first practical application of HDRI was by the movie industry in late 1980s and, in 1985, Gregory Ward created the Radiance RGBE image file format which was the first (and still the most commonly used) HDR imaging file format.

Wyckoff's concept of neighborhood tone mapping was applied to video cameras by a group from the Technion in Israel led by Prof. Y.Y.Zeevi who filed for a patent on this concept in 1988. In 1993 the first commercial medical camera was introduced that performed real time capturing of multiple images with different exposures, and producing an HDR video image.

Modern HDR imaging uses a completely different approach, based on making a high-dynamic range luminance or light map using only global image operations (across the entire image), and then tone mapping this result. Global HDR was first introduced in 1993 resulting in a mathematical theory of differently exposed pictures of the same subject matter that was published in 1995 by Steve Mann and Rosalind Picard. In 1997 this global-HDR technique of combining several differently exposed images to produce a single HDR image was presented to the computer graphics community by Paul Debevec.

This method was developed to produce a high dynamic range image from a set of photographs taken with a range of exposures. With the rising popularity of digital cameras and easy-to-use desktop software, the term HDR is now popularly used to refer to this process. This composite technique is different from (and may be of lesser or greater quality than) the production of an image from a single exposure of a sensor that has a native high dynamic range. Tone mapping is also used to display HDR images on devices with a low native dynamic range, such as a computer screen.

1996

Steve Mann developed and patented the global-HDR method for producing digital images having extended dynamic range at the MIT Media Laboratory. Mann's method involved a two-step procedure: (1) generate a single floating point image array by global-only image operations (operations that affect all pixels identically, without regard to their local neighborhoods); and then (2) convert this image array, using local neighborhood processing (tone-remapping, etc.), into an HDR image. The image array generated by the first step of Mann's process is called a "lightspace image", "lightspace picture", or "radiance map". Another benefit of global-HDR imaging is that it provides access to the intermediate light or radiance map, which has been used for computer vision, and other image processing operations.

1997

In 1997 this technique of combining several differently exposed images to produce a single HDR image was presented to the public by Paul Debevec.

2005

Photoshop CS2 introduced the Merge to HDR function.

In many ways, Photoshop CS2's HDR function is the holy grail of dynamic range. With properly shot and processed files it allows photographers to easily create images that were previously impossible, or at least very difficult to accomplish. But, good as it is, like a gun or nuclear power, it can be a force for evil as well as good.

Not every image needs to have 10-15 stops of dynamic range. In fact, most photographs look quite nice, thank you very much, with the 5-7 stops of dynamic range that we're used to. I fully expect to see some really silly if not downright ugly images in the months ahead, as photographers get their copies of Photoshop CS2 and start discovering what the HDR function is capable of.

But, as with all such tool [sic], in the hands of sensitive artists and competent craftsmen, I'm sure that we will start to be shown the world in new and exciting ways.

Until recently there were no "pure" examples of HDR based cinematography, since the effects were most commonly used during composited sequences in films. However with the advent of low cost consumer digital cameras, many amateurs began posting tone mapped HDR timelapse videos on the Internet. In 2008 Mobius/Quark Films released "Silicon Valley Timelapse" which is said to feature almost 1.1 million frames of tone mapped HDR, making it the largest single source of tone mapped HDR footage available to date.[citation needed]

I'm looking to buy a Canon EOS 1000D kit online. However, the kit lens is stated to be a Canon 18-55mm DC lens and not 18-55 IS. I've had a look around the difference but cannot find an answer. I am worried that I have a different not as good lense of the product is not legit.
