Is hiking in cold weather damage my digital camera?

I want to take my digital camera (Panasonic DMC or DCM, can not remember which) when hiking in cold weather with me, but I fear that the extreme temperature damage. I a case for it, but it is not insultated. I plan to be outside in any weather 30-20 degrees fahrenheit for maybe 3 or 4 hours. I'm not worried about the snow, just cold weather.

When I'm shooting in cold weather, I keep my camera in my jacket until it is time to shoot, then I put it back in there again. I also keep spare batteries in the inside pocket of my jacket. I've never had a problem. (Pansonic DMC-FZ8)
